CONSULT-MN List Subscriber's Guide

Introduction

CONSULT-MN (at http://www.consult-mn.org/listserv) is administered by Jack Rose, who prepared this guide. This information duplicates much of what's on the LISTSERV Command Reference Card and the email the server sends you when you first become a list member. A full List Subscriber's Manual can be found here.

CONSULT-MN is a public group (the world can see what you post) and it is partially moderated (posts are reviewed before they are made public).

Addresses you should know

Email addresses

CONSULT-MN@listserv.technogeek.biz: Use this address to post articles and comments to the list.

listserv@listserv.technogeek.biz: The LISTSERV mailing list server. Use this address to send commands (subscribe, unsubscribe, subscription settings and preferences) to the server.

CONSULT-MN-request@listserv.technogeek.biz: Use this address to reach a human when you have a question or need special intervention.

CONSULT-MN-signoff-request@listserv.technogeek.biz: Another way to unsubscribe; send a blank email to this address.

Web address

All of the operations described herein are supported by the web interface at http://www.consult-mn.org/listserv.

To use the web interface, first get a password for the LISTSERV server by clicking the blue "get a new LISTSERV password" text on the "Login Required" page.

The web interface (recommended)

The web interface is easy to use and largely self-explanatory.

The email interface

The following describes the functions as you would perform them using the email interface. It is included here for completeness. Send LISTSERV commands (e.g., SUBSCRIBE CONSULT-MN your-name-here) in the body (not the subject line) of an email to the list server at listserv@listserv.technogeek.biz.

To join the list, or to change the name you want to be known by:

SUBSCRIBE CONSULT-MN your-name-here

To leave the list:

SIGNOFF CONSULT-MN

To make a public post to the discussion group:

Email your post to consult-mn@listserv.technogeek.biz.

To change your email address:

CHANGE CONSULT-MN your_new_address

To set the list to digest mode:

SET CONSULT-MN DIGEST

To set the list to index mode:

SET CONSULT-MN INDEX

To set the list back to individual postings mode:

SET CONSULT-MN NODIGEST
or SET CONSULT-MN NOINDEX

To turn mail off for a while (e.g., vacation, business trip):

SET CONSULT-MN NOMAIL

To turn mail back on:

SET CONSULT-MN MAIL

To receive copies of your own posts:

SET CONSULT-MN REPRO NOACK

To get only a short acknowledgement message for your posts:

SET CONSULT-MN ACK NOREPRO

To receive an emailed copy of the Command Reference Card:

INFO REFCARD
